The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is a VisitScotland Scheme that credits environmental good practise. The scheme helps businesses identify cost savings relating to energy efficiency, water conservation and waste minimisation. It encourages the use of green products such as local food, drink and crafts and helps promote public transport, cycling, walking and wildlife conservation as well as providing additional marketing possibilities. Businesses can join the GTBS at Bronze, Silver or Gold based on the number of measures they have implemented.
OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the training participants will:
- Have identified the main areas of potential cost savings in their business
- Gained information and application forms for grants and other free support for implementing environmental improvements
- Understand the main environmental issues relating to their business and the associated costs
- Have assessed their own business against the criteria of the green tourism business scheme
- Have gained information about the application, assessment and advice process undertaken as part of the scheme
CONTENT:
The training will include:
- An explanation of legislation, information on grants, interest free loans etc.
- Presentations on GTBS including the application processes, grading requirements and marketing benefits
- Presentations on the GTBS, case studies and examples of measures carried out by existing members
- A free handbook of useful names and addresses containing directory of green products & web and email contacts
- Demonstrations and illustration of practical products such as low energy candle fittings, eco-washing products, safe plugs and various newsletters and magazines
FREE ON-SITE GRADING / ADVISORY VISIT
Following basic awareness training delegates can have a follow up with on-site grading / advisory visit. This will involve two-hour site visit to include an audit of the premises, interview with delegate and specific advice. A grading report with action plan and any additional support material not already covered in training will be sent after the visit.
If they are able to achieve an award the business will be offered a complementary membership based on them signing the code of conduct and agreeing to pay the annual fees when they are due. On-site specific advice will be subject to the business being available the day following the training or the next day if numbers require.
